This week, the Government of Western Australia announced the new $153.3 million Made in WA Energy Affordability Investment Program (MEAIP). Manufacturers will be able to access low interest loans of up to $15 million to support their decarbonisation.

One of the primary aims of this program is to help businesses immediately access the benefits of low-cost renewable energy and battery storage. The low-interest loans are intended to fund commercial solar and industrial batteries, energy efficient advanced manufacturing technologies or machinery, technologies which improve automation and smart resource usage, and workforce training to support this implementation.

By making the switch to energy efficient technologies, manufacturers can reap a number of benefits both now and in the future. This includes reducing costs, improving productivity, reducing carbon emissions, and reputational benefits from working towards net-zero.

In addition to reduced energy costs, the manufacturing industry can implement energy efficient technologies that assist with operating temperatures and heat recovery opportunities, shut-down procedures, lighting, HVAC systems, motors, air compressors, boilers, insulation, and more.

“By manufacturing businesses embracing renewable energy, storage, and more energy efficient processes, it will put downward pressure on the price of producing what they produce, making WA-made products more affordable for WA consumers, and more competitive for export markets.” – Premier Roger Cook.

This initiative will also benefit the wider community. Where businesses can increase their uptake of renewable energy, the peaks in demand on our grids should reduce, putting downward pressure on energy prices.

“Our government’s investment in big batteries and household battery storage is already putting downward pressure on household energy prices.” – Energy and Decarbonisation and Manufacturing Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson.

Applications for the Made in WA Energy Affordability Investment Program open in July 2026, but you can register your interest now here.
