This initiative aims to promote self-employment through a range of activities and is designed to encourage and enable unemployed workers to create their own jobs by starting their own small businesses.
Self-Employment Assistance can give you the opportunity to create your own business or refocus your existing micro business into a commercially viable one. You can get help in exploring, running and operating your new or existing business through tailored mentoring and targeted advice.

Starting a Business
If you’re not eligible for Self-Employment Assistance, we provide self-paced training that will equip you with the foundational skills for running a small business.
This program will help you:
- Identify your personal strengths, skills and motivations that support business success;
- Analyse a business idea to confirm it addresses a real need or market gap;
- Select an appropriate business structure and outline steps to register and protect it;
- Develop the foundation elements of a simple business plan to guide decisions; and
- Create purpose, vision and mission statements that reflect goals and values.
